The Home Project

about

Founded in 2005, The Home Project is a design studio that focuses on finding solutions with an origin – responsible design innovation that unfolds from an exploration between people and place.
It’s an integrated design practice that explores cultural research as an approach to authentic, engaged, sustainable material culture. Fueled by a curiosity and passion for technique and materials, it is also a sensitivity and value for tradition and the process of making.
In a sense, we are designing a return to craft, but this is a revisit that credits technique and knowledge with the potential for renewed engagement and value. By employing design as a facilitator, we can work together with clients and partners to ensure a development process that builds platforms and networks to empower communication and knowledge.
Our work engages in a joint and coordinated effort, one that we oversee and guide through all phases of project development and that is fruitful for projects at multiple scales.

Who we are

The-Home-Project * is a design studio founded in 2005 by Álbio Nascimento (PT) and Kathi Stertzig (DE). The two met in Italy while attending the Politecnico di Milano, and after living in Antwerp for some years, they are now based in Berlin, Germany and Faro, Portugal.
Kathi studied interior design in Hanover and Milan and graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven. Her work is driven by questions of how design can improve social and environmental issues. She has taught product design at the Design Academy and also at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Germany.
Albio’s training in interior and product design in Lisbon and Milan was followed by research at ExperimentaDesign. His special interest in crafts cultures lead to his research focus on cultural innovation and vernacular craft, the subject of his MA thesis and semester lecture at FH Potsdam, Germany.
Together they share a passion for disturbing questions and simple beauty!
