  COMMUNICATION DESIGN
for BETET SKARA - fashion weaving house
. Antwerp, Belgium
. 2003-06

Betet Skara is a weaving house originally created as a social integration program for political refugees. In Southeast Turkey the Assyrian Christians practised the old craft of pit weaving. It was their profession, their occupation and their source of income. In Belgium it was difficult for them to find work and integrate into society. Weaving is the only ‘professional qualification’ they have and the idea of founding a weaving workshop came up. The first looms were built by the weavers themselves as they used to do in the mountain villages.
The interaction between designers and Assyrian weaving art led to unique creations that become the trademark of Betet Skara, a unique professional hand-weaving atelier in Belgium.
